Simsbury Officially Opens Paw Meadow Dog Park May 19. Strut Your Mutt Adds to Festivities.

The Town of Simsbury, through the efforts of the Paw Meadow Dog Park Committee, recently opened the long-awaited Paw Meadow Dog Park. The committee announced plans for a combination grand opening/fundraising event slated for Saturday, May 19th. There will be an official ribbon-cutting held in conjunction with the second annual Strut Your Mutt event, which will run from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. (rain date May 20t, 1-4 p.m.). Festivities will include food, music, vendors, games, prizes and exhibits.

Committee member Nikki Perry stresses that, even though Paw Meadow is now open, “We still have lots of work to do to finish the park. We need to raise funds for landscaping, mulch, additional park furnishings and to create a fund for ongoing maintenance and upkeep. Though the town has generously provided the land, the dog park is 100% supported by the community.”

Perry continued, “We hope that community support will continue with Strut Your Mutt. Through a suggested $10 donation, dog owners can show off their four-legged friends, while also supporting the town’s newest recreation area. The event is an opportunity to raise money, promote community awareness of the park and celebrate its opening. It’s been in the works for so long, we’re just delighted to finally open the gates!”

The Paw Meadow Dog Park, located off Iron Horse Boulevard near the Simsbury Performing Arts Center, is the result of a three-year effort by volunteer members of the Paw Meadow Dog Park Committee.
